At 22 l emigrated from Spain to the United States. I traveled alone, barely speaking English and only carrying nostalgia as luggage.

My artwork explores the spaces I inhabit and my personal memories both physically and conceptually. I am conscious of how the spaces we live in create our identity. The cultural differences created a duality between my old and new home, my old and new identity which has been manifested in all my work.

I care about the origin of materials. Found objects, elements with a hidden past are modified to create a new form. Similarly, I incorporate wood and plaster into my practice to both reference and defy traditional processes.

My work focuses on the handmade at an intimate scale that demands a close viewing and inspires introspection. Hundreds of one-inch hand formed tiles, glazed in the Spanish mayólica style, cut across the room from ceiling to floor in my piece "2,54 cm" (1 inch). The work highlights the difference between the metric system and the imperial system and what it meant for me to not understand the measurements of spaces in the US.

My artistic process emphasizes repetition. "Untitled Manifesto" was created by writing the Spanish alphabet over and over on small pieces of glass to produce a massive pile of hundreds of shards each with one letter. The multiplicity of delicate elements illuminates fragility. My concern about words and the way we express ourselves, and the hardship of speaking in two languages is reflected in each broken piece.
