Rebeca Lopera, a Madrid-born artist, delves into the fragility of personal spaces and the vulnerability of daily lives. Rooted in conceptual art, she explores her experiences transitioning from Madrid to Miami, investigating cultural and personal change. Having earned her BFA from Madrid Complutense University and undertaken an exchange program at the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara, Italy, Lopera's academic journey laid the foundation for her artistic endeavors. She earned her MFA (2024) at Florida International University in Miami, and she embraces a diverse range of sculptural materials, from plaster and ceramics to found objects, infusing her pieces with layers of history and identity.
Beyond her creative pursuits, Lopera has garnered recognition through scholarships such as the Beca Universitaria Comunidad de Madrid and the Anisa Matthews Memorial Art Scholarship. Her internships at institutions like the Rubell Museum in Miami have expanded her understanding and network within the contemporary artistic scene. With exhibitions spanning internationally, from the Philip and Patricia Frost Art Museum in Miami, the Flatiron Gallery SVA in NYC, the Ducal Palace of Medinaceli in Madrid, the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery in Davie, FL, to the MIFA Miami International Fine Arts Gallery, Lopera's artistic journey is marked by a profound exploration of spaces in contemporary art and collaboration within the sculptural research domain.
Currently, she works as an Adjunct Professor in the Art Department at NWSA, the University of Miami (UM), and Broward College and is part of the artist collective Third Space in Miami.
